Clifford Labowsky, PSE, JSME CME (Vib.), INCE, M. ASME, is an independent expert in engineering vibration, with a special focus on rotating machinery. He has previously served as the Senior Engineer (Vibration Specialist) at Flowserve Corporation, where he supervised and conducted advanced vibration analysis on the global fleet of pumps, compressors, motors, fans, blowers, and turbines while helping to build their machinery monitoring and diagnostics program nationally and internationally. He is a subject-matter expert in mechanical vibration, having dealt with a wide range of challenging vibration problems, including, but not limited to: lateral & torsional rotor vibration, flow-induced vibration/fluid-structure interaction, structural dynamics, acoustical resonance, pressure pulsations, active/passive vibration control, and shock analysis. He holds internationally recognized professional engineering certifications from the National Agency for Finite Element Methods & Standards (NAFEMS) and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), both specialized in mechanical vibration. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, an associate member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) and is the current Academic Committee Chair of the Vibration Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and has completed several certified courses in acoustics and vibration at the post-baccalaureate level.
